Thank you, this case is machine specific. Instructions provided at the e-mail.

I got it: It is Windows 10. Or rather, the build-in Windows Security / Defender.

It's exploit protection is so sophisticated, you need to create multiple permissions just for GAT.

So if you have a fairly new installl and GAT suddenly freezes, give it a try. This all happened on standard settings.

So, did this solve the problem? No more freeze? However there are several machines running Defender too, didn't seem to cause an issue here. For those wondering, based on Paperino's response it seems Windows Defender messes with GAT's internal workings and potentially the same issue will occur with WG too.

Yes, it works.

Full instructions: Windows Defender->Apps&Browser>Deactivate everything->Scroll down->Exploit settings->Switch to Software->Create an exemption for GAT->Turn everything off->Confirm. Also run GAT as Admin in compatibility mode (Win8).

Are you on 1809 or 1903? Or maybe it is related to the Surface build.

1809, I don't know what is at the partner's system. Given the exception solved it, it seems to be Defender specific issue.

It likely is.

There is so much fancy stuff in the exploit settings. And basic real time protection is pretty aggressive, too.

It is just noteworthy that this happens on standard settings on a fresh install.

Did some more testing, installed Avira, same thing. Freezes at 38000 scanned tables.

Disabled Avira after restart, now GAT runs super smooth, super fast, already nearing a million GATs.

If you ask me, the jury is still out, could be a combination of things. Need to test it on a more traditional PC.

Time will tell, that's all for now!

I don't know if microsoft surface runs on a modified OS. It could be the case, some sort of virtualization takes place that messes the whole thing up. In all the tests we have performed here, no such behavior was observed. The strange this is, GAT 2.3 should also suffer from the same thing but I don't recall mentioning anything like that in the past.

Thanks. My workaround does its job, and sooner or later I'll find the exact wrongdoer.

Back to 3.0: I am now at 6 million scanned tables in nearly a matter of minutes.
It feels as if the algo is optimized for multi core. But it is not, is it? Still, huge improvement!
Would also like to know more about automated stat.data, can we trust it?

-> Anyway, nothing urgent, enjoy the weekend and the sun!
